Smokebush In early spring, the irregularly shaped, billowy Smokebush is covered in roundish, 3" leaves. By late spring to early summer, large, loose clusters of tiny, pink, purple, or gray blooms appear at the branch ends. As the blooms fade, they send out hairy filaments to produce an enchanting cloud of purple "smoke", In fall, the leaves turn rusty gold, orange, or brilliant red. Since the Smokebush does not need rich soil or regular water, you can use them where some of your more demanding plants might fail.
