Peony -
Paeonia
An old fashioned mainstay of the perennials
garden is the Peony. These long lived and dependable plants offer dense,
glossy foliage that makes a good hedge and large, single and double
flowers. In addition to their beauty, peonies are attractive in other
ways. They hardy, fragrant, long-lived, need only infrequent
dividing and their spectacular blooms make great cut flowers. They can be
grown as focal points in the garden, or as hedges and work exceptionally
well as foundation plants in place of woody shrubs that may suffer under
the weight of heavy snow. Grow supports or hoops may be necessary to keep
fully blooming foliage upright. Peonies probably compare to Lilacs as one
of the most common flowering plants that have withstood the test of time
since the days of Colonial America.

Sorry, Sold Out for 2008
You'll melt when you see this
blazing sun of a flower that features bright, lemony yellow petals that
show just a touch of rich raspberry flares at the base of golden colored
central stamen cluster. Double rows of petals create a semi-double look
and an amazing show considering that each bloom measures about 4" in
diameter! 'High noon' is a past winner of the American Peony Society Gold
medal Award, and a rare accolade for a tree peony, making it a no-brainer
to add to your collection of peonies. 'High Noon' is easy to grow
producing deep green, deeply cut foliage forming a considerable bush that
serves as a perfect backdrop for these magnificent blooms. Even better,
they'll fill the garden with fragrance when open from late May through
June!
Matures 4-5' tall x 4-5' wide.

Common Name: Tree
'Peony'
Botanical Name :
Paeonia
suffruticosa 'Purple'
These are some of the most
beautiful plants ever to bloom in the garden. Fully double goblet-shaped
flowers measure up to 8 inches wide! Petals have the rich gleam of
Oriental silk and a transparency unknown among lesser peonies! The Purple
Peony Tree foliage is lush deep green. They bloom with royal lavishness,
producing up to 200 huge, fragrant flowers per plant. Start to bud even
before snow leaves the ground! While the frost is still on the ground
these glorious Purple Peony Trees begin active growth. In April you'll see
their buds shoot out.
Folks will drive miles just for a glimpse of your garden. Live for
generations, add beauty year round! Unlike ordinary peony varieties,
these woody bushes do not die back to the ground in winter -- instead grow
larger and more beautiful each year! The bush seldom grows higher than 4
feet; but spreads gracefully each succeeding year until it reaches as much
as 5 feet across. Like the Giant Redwoods, they live for generations --
for a century or even more! So amazingly hardy, living blooming plants of
200 and 300 years old are reported from China and Japan!
Rich purplish-pink with golden stamens. Very strong grower. The flowers
though dark, are very delicately textured and draw much attention.
Matures 3-4' tall x 4-5' wide.
Hardy to Zone 4. |
