Lungwort - Pulmonaria

Long known as one of the premier plants for shade, the genus Pulmonaria is enjoying a new renaissance of popularity. The genus' common name comes from the spotted, speckled leaf variegation of most species, which to early herbalists resembled the inside of a lung. According to the long-since-discredited "Doctrine of Signatures," this meant the plant should be useful for treating respiratory disorders.
