Foxglove - Digitalis

Those suffering from heart maladies may be familiar with the name Digitalis  because, although the leaves are poisonous, they are use as a heart stimulant in small amounts.  Gardeners plant them for their tall showy clumps of bell-like flowers.  Although very beautiful, we recommend picking the flowers before they go to seed as you can easily have a sea of Foxgloves in a few years that will over-run your gardens.  They grow in ordinary soil that is not wet over winter and will respond better with a little extra fertilizer.  They thrive in sun or light shade, and benefit from winter mulch when no snow cover is present.
CAUTION: All foxgloves are poisonous
