Euonymous

This group consists of both evergreen and deciduous shrubs. Euonymus has also been known as Spindletree, Winter Creeper and the compactus variety as Burning Bush . These plants make great hedges, edging, and ground covers. The deciduous varieties are valued for their vividly colored fruits and gorgeous autumn colors. The evergreen types are valued for their handsome foliage, which is usually multicolored, as well as their tolerance to the salty sprays and winds of coastal regions.

Common Name: Dwarf Compact 'Burning Bush'
Scientific Name : Euonymous alatus 'Compactus'

This colorful shrub is definitely a favorite of ours and our customers as well.  Burning Bush has perhaps the brightest red fall color of any plant. Tolerant of almost any conditions, but it does not color up quite as well if planted in the shade. The twigs have winged, cork-like bark, adding to the winter interest.  If you really want to see the performance of this beauty in the garden, check out the dazzling display in Muriel Heath's garden across from the Union Post Office (just down the hill a bit).  You can't travel down route 235 in the fall months without this beauty catching your eye.

Matures 6-8' tall x 8-10' wide.       Hardy to Zone 4.

Common Name: Moonshadow 'Euonymous'
Scientific Name : Euonymous fortunei 'Moonshadow'

Bright golden variegation is outstanding on this vigorous groundcover shrub. Broad leaves are edged in bright grass green on mounding, compact plants. Spreading habit makes a highly useful, low maintenance filler for beds, along foundations, or for bank and slope coverage. Use as bright accent against darker needled evergreens for winter interest. Use as vivid background or boundary edge for perennial borders. Not particular about soil, provided it is well drained. Withstands heat and drought once mature. Best in full sun but tolerates some shade.

Fast growth to 3 feet tall and spreading up to 5 feet wide.      Hardy to Zone 4
