Dianthus - Hardy Pinks or Sweet William

Dianthus is derived from the Greek for devine flower and so it is.  Sometimes referred to as a Border Carnation, it is but one member of the large family of hundred of carnation species.  The Border name fits as well, because of their tidy, neat growth habit, they are most desired in border gardens and make excellent cut flowers.  Nearly all are dwarf growing making the front of the garden the most suitable spot.
