Delphinium - Larkspur

The majestic delphiniums, with their tall, spire-like flowers, in blue, purple, lilac, pink, and white, have long been important access plants to the formal garden.  The new hybrids have made delphiniums even more desirable, and though they may need more care than many other plants, they are worth the trouble.  Delphiniums like a sunny location, but don't mind a little light afternoon shade and need rich garden soil with a little lime.  Most will need to be staked or grown against a fence or wall to help support them.  Each year we order more Delphiniums, and each year we sell out early, so don't wait on this one!

Common Name: 'Larkspur'
Botanical Name : Delphinium   'Summer Blues'

If you go looking for this plant amongst the giant size plants you usually associate with this genus, you'll be disappointed. But, that might be the only think that disappoints about this dense, compact grower that forms a tight mound loaded with deeply cut, deep green foliage. Starting in early June, the flower show that continues all summer long will have you shaking your head in wonder as soft, sky blue spurred flowers just keep on coming offset perfectly by its nearly lacy foliage. Use 'Summer Blues' in a moist, well-drained, sunny spot and use it in groups or as an edging plant that keeps the color ramped up for so long. It even looks sweet in mixed containers, holding its own against brassy annuals with constant bloom.

Matures 10-12" tall x 10-12" wide. Hardy to Zone 3
