Common Name:  'Blue Indigo'
Scientific Name : Baptisia australis'

This is a great alternative to finicky bush or perennial lupines. Beautiful violet blue flower stalks rise a foot above plants to bloom in early summer over 3 to 4 weeks. Makes a dense, lush clump of very attractive blue green foliage that stands up to the heat. Large enough to use as a single specimen. Perfect to flesh out sparse border; combines well with most American native species. Grow as a cut flower or mass in the garden for a large sea of delicious cool blue. Not intimidated by grasses in meadow gardens. Widely adaptable and leguminous; plants grow in nitrogen poor soil provided it is well drained. Herbaceous shrubby perennial. Full sun to part shade.

Slow growing to 3 to 4 feet and as wide.           Hardy to Zone 3.
