Astilbe - False Spirea

The Astilbe are a group of feathery-plumed flowers. they range in heights and come in many shades pink, red, and cream, as well as white.  Astilbe grow well in full sun but prefer light or partial shade in ordinary garden soil. Most varieties behave nicely in the garden, although a few of the older types are known to spread quickly and outgrow their spot. They are heavy feeders, so additional fertilizer is necessary if the plants are to thrive.  All varieties should be dug up and divided every  two to four years.
